Game of Thrones characters we’d love to see return from the dead…and some we wouldn’t

On Game of Thrones, anyone can proceed at anytime. Whether we adored them or hated them, we’ve watched for seven seasons as character types have dropped lifeless, whether by beheading or ripped to items by a horde of zombies or eaten by a pack of hungry dogs. In Westeros, death lurks around every corner. As the eighth and final season approaches, we’re nervous for the heroes left standing. prince eric cosplay costume

But death doesn’t have to mean the end. Jon Snow and Beric Dondarrion returned from the great beyond ready to continue the combat, and the Night King is always happy to recruit new mindless wights into his army. And even though a lot of personas have died, we didn’t always see it happen, which allows us to nurse ridiculous fantasies about ducking out of sight to reemerge and fight another day. If what is dead may never die, who would we want to see come back from the grave in the final six episodes? And on the flip side, who would we really prefer stay in the ground? discount attack on titan cosplay

We’re not here to argue whether these characters are actually likely to come back; we’re just considering what their return would do to our poor hearts. Let’s start by shedding some bitter tears over a man taken from us far too soon.cheshire cosplay young justice

HBO’s visual effects wizards breakdown their work on “Beyond the Wall”

From fire inhaling and exhaling dragons to undead polar bears, Game of Thrones brings the visual spectacle. “Beyond the Wall structure,” the Emmy-nominated sixth bout of this latest season, included 2,106 visual effects shots made by multiple special results companies working all over the world. A few HBO’s heavy-hitter special effects pros talked to IndieWire about how exactly everything came together, you start with that flaming undead polar bear. “In doing picture research on lifeless polar bears, they lose their body fat layer and the fur mats and goes away completely,” said lead visual results supervisor Joe Bauer. “They don’t look like polar bears anymore.” Who knew? cheap hetalia cosplay

So they couldn’t make the polar bear look completely dead lest we not recognize it. Wayne Stables. an computer animation supervisor at Weta Digital, had the thought of “sizing up the skeletons, in order that there was some description for the form of it. “And you had a need to obtain enough of the familiar face features so that it didn’t appear to be a monster.”

In the event that you recognize the name Weta Digital, it’s because they’re a famous special studio known for their focus on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, Avatar, the Avengers films and many more. They’re big period, which was their first-time working on Video game of Thrones. Per IndieWire, they’ll play “a much bigger role” in season 8. Oh, really? kuroshitsuji dagger cosplay

Anyway, back again to the bear, once they had their model, the group had to determine the best to provide it. They proceeded to go the Jaws route, not really allowing our heroes get yourself a good consider the bear until it had been feet from their faces. “We also used the density of the snow and the surroundings as a means of separating it from the blizzard. We'd to perform with it too much to produce the sweet place. It’s all an activity of exploration. The tiny nuance of motion that lets you know it weighs one thousand pounds, particularly when it’s running on snow, is quite hard to accomplish.”

Beric Dondarrion and his flaming sword helped set the bear away, as lead visual effects producer Steve Kullback explained:

In addition, it helped visibility a lot when he caught fire. And Joe acquired a [good] way of supporting that by designing a frame of the polar bear that was built by the unique effects team with a at once best and was piped for gas. It gave the stunt group something to connect to.

Of course, the flaming polar bear wasn’t the only particular effect in the episode. Spanish studio El Ranchito done the army of the dead. There were two types of wights onscreen: the green screen wights were made out of about 90% CGI and 10% outfit and prosthetics. The other kind, the “adverse space wights,” had been more of a 70-30 split.

“The VFX mainly added volume with a large number of wights on the ice or more into the hill extensions,” Bauer said. “The additional addition was if they break through the ice, therefore we shot plates and 3D tracked them. We constructed a water container on stage and utilized movement control to duplicate camera moves, and shot stunt wights dropping through wax pieces on a hydraulic program that lowered them in to the tank.” legend of korra cosplay costume

Ultimately, Daenerys flies to Jon’s rescue, blasting a path through the army of the lifeless in a sequence that required work from a minimum of five visual effects companies; El Ranchito, THE 3RD Floor, Picture Engine, Rhythm & Hues and Pixomondo. “Having Drogon property on the island and consider off from a set position was among the issues,” said Bauer. “It had been like a 200-foot-lengthy high jumper. The complexity to getting all those dynamics correct for the leap and flap had taken a whole lot of effort.”

This scene showcased multiple actors climbing onto Drogon’s back, another first for the visible effects department. “We made a decision to laser slice the entire back again of Drogon completely level out of polystyrene, and that was split into three sections,” Bauer described.
If they animated the dragon’s performance, we'd play back the part of it where that piece was situated upon Drogon therefore the surface with the actors was correct to the action.” discount attack on titan cosplay

Finally, there’s Viserion’s resurrection. “When the wights draw Viserion out of the frozen lake onto the top, that was beautiful function. Therefore was that iconic blue eyesight ball shot [from El Ranchito].”

What would prevents somebody from cosplaying and hitting a Cosplay Convention?

There would be many factors which would leads to an end of the Cosplay Convention.
The notion of someone showing up in costume with a real weapon is part of our day to day nightmares and I’ve stripped more weapons off attendees who were attempting to use those weapons (usually knives) than I like to think about. So… as one of the people charged with the safety and well being of people at con, here are a few of the things we do to make the space safer for everyone. And you would also love the  Cosplay Costumes at cosjj.com Nothing is perfect, no matter who we might cosplay as, con security aren’t super heroes, but the things below are all actions that convention safety and security may take in various combinations to make the space as safe as we can for everyone.

Policies
It starts long before the first day of con with a clearly written weapons policy that lets cosplayers know what is and what isn’t allowed. Different cons may take different approaches to their weapon policies. Some cons forbid all weapon props (cosplayers hate this, we know, I promise.) Some cons will forbid all firearm props, some cons will forbid any firearm prop that looks too realistic. Policies need to be communicated well in advance of the convention to give cosplayers time to prepare a costume that can be rules compliant. That said, people still show up at con with things that violate policy. Con policy should also make clear what happens to those weapons. Some cons will simply instruct cosplayers to return an item to their hotel room or vehicle, others will confiscate the weapon until the end of the convention. This is something that, again, should be made clear in policy.
Peace Bonding
Peace bonding is a really old security tradition that has its roots in requiring people secure their swords to their sheathes so the sword cannot be quickly and easily drawn. At con, it is frequently a requirement that all weapons, swords, guns, giant wizard staves, etc, be peace bound.
Peace bonding of weapons may or may not render the weapon unusable but it serves an important purpose for security walking the floor. Convention attendees are frequently required to have their weapon props peace bound by convention security which gives us an opportunity to inspect them. Things that are real or too realistic will be rejected and the attendee will not be allowed to bring the prop into convention space.

When security is on the floor, an attendee whose weapon is not peace bound is someone security is going to intervene with. Most often this simply involves escorting the person to registration or wherever they need to go to get their weapon inspected and bonded, some times security may do it on the spot, but it’s a visual way for security to pay attention to things.
I’ve worked cons that used color coded peace bonds so security can spot things that look peace bound but haven’t actually passed con staff’s eyes, cons that used custom ribbon (branded with the con logo) for peace bonding and other methods as well. The short of it is, those bright and colorful zip ties are part of keeping real guns out of con space and giving us an opportunity to intervene if a person carrying a weapon is seen on the convention floor that doesn’t appear like it should be there.
Trained Security
Many larger conventions will contract with large, professional security agencies. Smaller conventions may work with a volunteer security force but even those security forces can be surprisingly well trained (my night detail one year were members of the local Sheriff’s posse.)
I was working security for NDK in 2001, eleven days after 9/11, and not far from where the Columbine High School massacre had occurred two years prior. Our head of security conducted one of the most memorable security training sessions I’ve ever sat in. He started with a review of local laws regarding use of force and what we could and could not legally do as security personnel, then reviewed convention policy for how we were expected to handle ourselves. Then, he hauled out a backpack and from that backpack produced something like this:
He then asked us, from across the room, to tell him if it was a real weapon or a prop weapon. It didn’t take long for someone to say “It’s an Airsoft gun, the tip is orange!” So he reached into his backpack and pulled out one of these:
And he asked us if we still thought the gun was Airsoft. Then he pulled out a series of smaller weapons, pistols, knives and what I hope was a training grenade. Then he asked us how many backpacks we expected to see that weekend.
Training didn’t stop there and I’m not going to bore you with all the details but do know that the professionals working security for these events prepare for exactly the sort of scenarios this question asks about and discuss how to respond to them well ahead of the convention.
The tools of the trade
Some conventions may employ metal detectors though truthfully I haven’t seen it often (kind of impractical.) That said, convention spaces frequently have security cameras for monitoring, security staff will carry radios for response coordination, we carry keys that let us move through parts of the building not accessible to the general public so we can respond more quickly to incidents and we absolutely keep our eyes open.
In general, it’s my sincere hope that most people at con never do anything more with con security than pose with us for a photo. I prefer being the guy helping a lost child find their way back to their parents, or reuniting frantic con attendees with lost cell phones and wallets to conversations that involve sending someone back to their hotel room to put a well crafted prop away but that’s part of the job too.
And I know that deadpool wade wilson cosplay costumes is loved by many cosplayers. Sometimes the sword is not allowed to take in.
Convention security tries hard not to disrupt the con. A lot of the time, we’re fans too and we understand that no cosplayer wants to go without their character’s signature arsenal in the multitude of photos that will be taken at con. Each and every con needs to create rules they feel are appropriate to their event about what kinds of props will be allowed into convention space but the intention is always to make the con the safest space we can for everyone to have fun.

Cosplay Newbie should know those things

  1. Cosplay Time and Date
  2. Who you want to cosplay
  3. Where do you buy cosplay
For conventions, make sure that you have a way of carrying essentials on you, even if your costume doesn't have pockets. And I do love the Cosplay Costumes very very much. Perhaps make a simple bag to match your costume (same color as your outfit, or decorated with a suitable design, an example being a Jedi costume with the Jedi order symbol)

Wear your costume around before the con, to make sure that you can move around in it, or that things don't start slipping/pinching/falling apart after a little while. At home, there's lots of time to make adjustments and fixes. And  also you could buy the black panther cosplay costume
Don't worry if you're not as good as some of the veteran or professional cosplayers out there. Those cosplayers started somewhere too, and with practice, you too will eventually get good.
Figure out who you want to cosplay. Cosplay can come from anywhere; books, movies, tv shows, anime, manga, video games, comics, etc. Think of a media that you really enjoy and then find a character that you like from it, whether it be that you like the outfit or their personality. (Or both!)
Figure out whether you want to make the costume yourself or buy one. There is no shame in buying a costume, no matter what anyone thinks. Some people enjoy the work of making their costumes and some people just enjoy wearing them. It's up to you. You can find pre made ones online, or even commission another cosplayer.
Figure out your skill level. Do you have basic sewing skills down? Do you know how to make props? Can you style a wig? Take these into consideration of what you can accomplish. A ball gown, full armor, or a complex wig for example might not be the best for a beginner.
Gather your resources. The internet is a wonderful place to go to find cosplay resources. Cosplayers are always posting tutorials on how they made their pieces and you might be able to find exactly what you're looking for, if not something you can tweak for your purposes. You can look at other cosplayers who have done the character you're making too and ask them what they did. You can also find books and guides for specific techniques. Pinterest, tumblr, and instructables are great places to start.
Get it done! Whatever you do, make sure you have it done before your due date and try to avoid sleepless nights. Make sure if you buy the costume it gets there with some wiggle room before.
Find a convention near you if you even want to go to one. Some people just like to wear their costumes for fun at home too. Googling your location and “anime convention” or “"sci-fi comvention” can give you results as well as animecons.com’s extensive Convention Schedule.
Make sure you're enjoying yourself. Don't let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do because of your weight, height, skin color, gender, nationality, age, abilities, etcetra. The community is a place for people to come together and share an interest in what they love as well as this art form. Show off your cosplay with confidence! Have tons of fun! Meet new people! That's what it's all about.

Mask Masks Tutorial

In honor of swine flu season, here is a project for all those face masks!

If you are interested in Cosplay Costume, I strong suggest you with this online Cosplay Shop website: http://www.cosjj.com/

Usually I am pretty good at planning for Halloween, it being my favorite holiday, but on occasion I have to throw something together last minute. This was the case last year when I took an extra face-mask  I had hanging around to make a quick costume! By re-using things around the house this project is cheap and easy on the environment. The skill level required is low, ranging from kindergartner with marker to amateur seamstress/tailor and the final product is a cute and comfortable Halloween mask.

Step 1: Gather Materials
Face-mask: you can use anything from the nicer cotton ones people wear all over Asia to the ones used in hospitals or even the paper-like ones used in construction and painting.

Eye-mask: The ones for traveling are the kind I have in mind - there always seems to be one somewhere in the back of a cupboard that came from some international flight's complimentary toiletry bag.

Permanent markers are ideal if you plan on drawing, but all I had to use was the cheapest quality water-soluble kind, and my mask still came out all right. No matter what there will probably be a little bit of bleeding around the edges, so don't try to draw anything too detailed.

Material Scraps of any kind will work, depending on what you want to make. Nylon is especially useful for eye-masks

Step 2: Drawn Face Mask
Drawing: For this part I suggest looking at pictures of whatever it is you want to be for Halloween before drawing it and then practice a few times on paper.

Example Dog Face-mask:
I took a black face-mask that was laying around and flipped it over to make a white surface for this one. A cheaper, disposable paper mask would probably work better with markers than my cloth one did, but cloth is what I had. Next I looked at pictures of dog snouts online and practiced drawing them until I got a desirable picture to put on the mask. Afterward I used my ridiculously bleeding markers to draw my pattern on the fabric. Because the markers bled, it gave the mask a fuzzy look, which is actually appropriate for a dog's face, but the teeth didn't come out very well. In order to make the fang's more pronounced, I went over them with white out, which seemed to do the trick.

Step 3: Drawn Eye-Mask

If you can find a light-colored eye-mask, coloring it can be a simple way to attend a low-budget masquerade.  Like I did with the dog face-mask, I went online and looked at pictures of dog eyes - not too difficult, they eyes look a lot like ours! Next I drew them on and then I cut out they eye part. I then colored the eye-mask to better match my dog face-mask.

The eye-mask pictured below isn't as interesting as it could be because I made it to match the dog face-mask. If you don't have a face-mask to match it with you could come up with something much more creative,  especially if you are handy with a marker.

Step 4: Sewn Face-Mask

Sewing: After you figure out what kind of mask you want, i.e. shark's mouth, look around for scrap material in the colors you need. For the shark's face I used a black face mask, an old white t-shirt and an old grey t-shirt. It doesn't take much!

Once you gather the right colors you just need to cut them in the shapes you want, layer them in the correct order and sew them on to the mask. If you are working with felt-like material you might even be able to use a hot glue gun, which would be especially useful for detailed areas like teeth. **If you use glue make sure it is clear colored and try it out on some of the scraps to make sure it holds before using it on your mask!

Example Shark Face-mask:
For the shark's face I cut the t-shirt into two strips that matched the length of my face-mask, then I cut jagged little notches along the length of one side of each of the two strips. Then I pinned the teeth onto the black face-mask.

Next I cut a piece of grey material to match the shape of the entire face-mask, adding a 1/4 inch extra space along the edges. I cut this piece in half to form the upper and lower jaws and placed the grey material over the mask.  As I removed the pins holding the teeth in place, I folded and pinned the grey material along the edges and around the teeth, making sure plenty of the teeth were showing. Sew along all of the edges and your mask is complete!

Step 5: Sewn Eye-Mask

By far the trickiest part of the ensemble, the sewn eye-mask requires lots of pinning and patience at the sewing machine.

First I lined up all of my materials, including a gray piece of fabric, a piece of black nylons and the eye-mask, and cut them leaving about half an inch around the edges of the eye-mask.

Once I had all the material properly sized, I figured out where the eye holes should go by putting the mask on, feeling where the center of my eyes were and marking those two spots. I then drew circles around those marks (if you want round circles I suggest finding something round to trace) and cut the material within the circles out of the eye-mask. After cutting out the eye holes I placed the face mask flat over the gray material and traced the outlines of the holes and cut a cross shape into the circles of the gray material.

***Cut your outer eye-hole a little smaller than the one in the eye mask because the outer material will stretch to make a bigger opening when you are sewing.***

Lining up the three layers and pinning them together is both important and tricky. It is easiest to sew the nylon into place before you pin the outer material on. With the nylon material already sewn in-between, try to make sure your outer eye holes match up with the eye holes of the eye-mask by feel. Next I tucked the edges under and pinned all the layers together. After securely pinning around all of the edges I sewed the border with about 1/2 inch away from the edge.

Hopefully your eye holes line up at least somewhat, mine weren't perfect, but it wasn't too big of a deal. Regardless, I pinned each of the four flaps of the gray eye hole under the gray fabric to make the outter eye holes. Take special care when sewing the eye holes to get really close the edge of the gray material, but not to miss it.

This is where I stopped to complete my shark/monster costume, but I would encourage people to add whatever else to their mask as they see fit!

Easy Mask to Wear With Glasses

Want a quick and easy mask for a masked ball or quick and easy costume, but wear glasses? Here is how to make it:

1. Lay your glasses lens down on the center of a piece of construction paper. You may want to let the lenses rest on a piece of fabric to avoid scratching. Trace around your glasses with a pen or pencil. Create a shape for your mask starting at the upper line of your glasses, including an area no thinner than 1/4” over the nosepiece. Extend the sides of your mask down below the bottom of your lenses and curving in under the lenses a little bit.

2. Cut out the template. While facing a mirror, slide the template behind your glasses, pulling the sides down along your temples so that the template is resting on the bridge of your nose and is held in place by the temples of your glasses. How does it look? Do the cheek pieces extend too far forward or not far enough? Do you need to cut more space around your eyes, or make that area smaller? Is the mask bumping into your ears? Decide what changes you need to make.

3.While still wearing the template, mark with a pencil or pen above and below the temple pieces a little in front of where the temples of your glasses first meet your face. Remove template. Cut small verticle slits at the points you marked on the sides of the mask. Push your glasses temples through the slits. Put the template back on. Is that comfortable? Change the position of the slits if you need to.

4.Trace your pattern onto the backside of your mask material. If you are using a glittery paper, it is a good idea to spray it lightly with hair spray before you cut out your mask. Cut out your pattern. Cut the slits.

5. Decorate your mask. I used silver fun-foam for one mask and gold sticker paper for the other. I carefully pulled back the edges of the backing paper of the sticker paper and placed the feathers along the edge of the mask, then pressed the backing paper back into place. All the materials for two masks, not including the construction paper I had at home, cost me just over $10.00.
